Evening Ride

I went out for a quick 15 miler this evening, taking me along the Cedar River, onto some quiet blacktop, and finishing up with some choice gravel. The bugs were so bad along the river I had to be careful breathing. I caught one in the eye and spit out a couple more. My arms and legs were getting pelted by them.

Dead Pet Trail

Drove to Decorah this morning to ride the trails. After 40 minutes of looking and asking locals, I found the trails. The trails were tough all right. Steep climbs and tight turns. I ended the ride by impailing my left nut on the excess exposed steerer tube when my rear tire spun out on a rocky climb. I thought I was dying for sure. Well worth the drive but I'll wait for cooler weather before I go back.

Skinny Tires... Fat Saddlebag

Rolled 35 miles today with the IRC 700x38's and the Carradice Nelson Longflap. At 60 psi, the 38's are sweet on pavement and gravel and surprisingly awesome on singletrack. Absolutely zero loss of traction climbing or descending. The only downside is my lack of confidence when crossing logs with them. The big saddlebag gets the weight off my back, but gets in the way when trying to get back behind the saddle on downhills.

Boy Scout Day Camp

Bike rides, BB guns, archery, and slip and slides. Noah and I had a great time at Boy Scout Day Camp in Riceville today. This was our first ever scouting event. I ended up being the go to guy on our group's bike ride. I adjusted many helmets, tightened one wheel, lowered a seat post, and advised a few kids that the buzzing sound coming from their bike was dry chain. I found out that adding dish soap to the slip and slide tarp decreases friction. The kids loved it!

First post...

First post of my blog. Bla bla bla... I took the day off from work so I could have some "me time". I went out for a 54 mile gravel travel to Riceville and surounding territories. Had fun exploring the Wapsi Great Western trail system. Parts of the area are very swampy, so they have some cool boardwalk connecting part of the trail. I hit up some pretty rough B roads on the way home. Just glad it was dry today.
